Everest Trek to Kalapater
If you have dreamed of seeing Mt. Everest, the world's highest mountain,
you have many chances on this classic trek. Seated on the 'throne
of the Gods' at Kalapatar (5545m) near Everest Base Camp, you are
greeted with superb views of Mt. Everest, Pumori and Lhotse.
This
great Himalayan range grows more awesome with each step, as you
trek through the Sagarmatha National Park in the Khumbu District.
'Sagarmatha' is the Nepalese name for Mt. Everest. To the Sherpa
people who live in this area, this great mountain is affectionately
called 'Chomolungma' the Goddess mother of the world. You pass through
verdant valleys, forests of pine, and lovely Sherpa villages and
farms. There are house visits with families, monastery tours at
Tengboche, market days in Lukla and Namche Bazaar, and friendly
Sherpas to get to know along the way.
