Ama Dablam is known to be one of the most spectacular mountains
in the world and is a true alpinist's dream. This unforgettable
climb involves a cultural trek into base camp, technical snow and
ice climbing, and stunning panoramic summit views of Everest, Lhotse,
and Makalu. We place three camps along the beautiful Southwest ridge
where we have dramatic and exposed views of the Himalayas.
A clear
stream meanders the grassy meadows at the basecamp; the striking
massif of Ama Dablam looms overhead and across the valley. Mt. Taweche
leers in oblique profile. At night, one can see from the camps on
the mountain the lights from the villages in the Khumbu that illustrate
the progress from butter lamps to hydroelectricity in recent times.
Our acclimatization program is initiated in these lower villages
giving us the opportunity of spending time in the homes of our Sherpa
friends and an insight into the culture of these great people before
tackling the heights.
